DESPR Resource Links*
These links were selected because they offer direct access to various information useful to substance abuse researchers. Most sites offer downloadable measurement instruments, data (many with codebooks), and reports. Information is annotated, and the sites are easy to navigate. If you wish to nominate a site, bring it to the attention of a NIDA program official.
Financing and Economic Research
- Drug Abuse Treatment Cost Analysis Program (DATCAP)
A battery of cost data collection instruments and interview guide designed to be used in a variety of medical treatment and social service settings to estimate the cost of treatment at the program (Program DATACAP) and the client (Inpatient DATCAP & Outpatient DATACAP) levels developed by Dr. Michael French at the University of Miami.
- Substance Abuse Services Cost Analysis Program (SASCAP)
A battery of cost data collection instruments designed to collect service costs and revenue (SASCAP-Cost) and labor costs (SASCAP-Labor) across treatments developed by Dr. Gary Zarking and Laura Dunlap at RTI in North Carolina.

- Chestnut Health Systems, Research and Training Lighthouse Institute
Information and widely used measures, including the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN) for a variety of large projects examining the drug abuse treatment service delivery.
- The Treatment Research Institute (TRI)
Home of the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) and Drug Evaluation Network System (DENS), this site providers information, measures, and data archives for a variety of large projects examining the drug abuse treatment service delivery.
- Institute of Behavioral Research at Texas Christian University
Information, measures, and data archives for a variety of large projects examining the drug abuse treatment service delivery.
- University of Kentucky Center for Drug and Alcohol Research
Information, measures, and data archives for a variety of large projects examining the drug and alcohol abuse treatment service delivery.
- Drug Abuse Treatment Outcomes Study (DATOS)
Information, measures, and data archives for this national study examining the effectiveness of drug abuse treatment.
- Comorbidity and Addictions Center (CAC)
Frequently-used measures and summaries of various projects examining the drug abuse treatment service delivery at the Washington University School of Social Work.
- The Center for Education and Drug Abuse Research (CEDAR)
Information, measures, and data archives for the University of Pittsburgh drug abuse treatment research program.
- Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)
Provides a large searchable archive of data bases, codebooks, reports, etc. most of it downloadable.
- The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA)
Contains some downloadable reports on national surveys.

DESPR Seminar Series
Most Wednesdays, the division holds an informal seminar in the main NIDA conference room on the 3rd floor between 9:30 and 10:30. These presentations involve program overviews or recent findings from the field. The speaker may not always be the person listed below, as POs may be sponsoring somebody in their portfolio.
